Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD)
DESCRIPTION
Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD), also known as peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is caused by obstruction of large peripheral arteries that supply oxygen to the internal organs and limbs. The obstruction could be due to atherosclerosis, embolism and thrombosis. PAOD causes acute or chronic ischemia (lack of blood supply).
